Ricardo D. Garcia-Mónaco was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1958.
He received his medical degree from the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires in 1981.
Six years later he completed his residency at the Hospital Italiano (University of Buenos Aires).
In 1988, he started his 3-year fellowship in angiography and interventional radiology at the BicOEtre Hospital and the Institute Gustave Roussy in France.
In the same year he passed the board examination in radiology, a degree which was conceded to him by the NationalMinistry of Health.
In 1990, he received his diploma in magnetic resonance from the University of Paris. Prof. Garcia-Mónaco is member of numerous professional organisations.
In 1992, he started to act as head of Interventional Radiology and Endovascular Therapy at the Hospital Italiano; four years later he became professor of radiology and programme director of Interventional and Vascular Radiology of the University of Buenos Aires. From 1997 to 2001 he was member of the International Advisory Board of NICER and chairman of the Educational Committee of the Argentine Society of Radiology. He also served as president of the Argentine Society of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Neuroradiology (1997-1998). In 1998 he became member of the International Advisory Board of WFTIN and, in 1999, member of the Educational Board of the International Society of Radiology. Since 2000 he has been serving as secretary general of the Interamerican Society of Radiology and as president of the Argentine Society of Radiology. Since 2001 he has been member of the International Relations Committee of the European Congress of Radiology. In addition, he functions as reviewer of the Argentine Journal of Radiology and the Journal of the Iberoamerican Society of Interventional Radiology. Prof. Garcia-Mónaco has so far issued about 200 scientific presentations at national or international congresses and published nearly 90 scientific papers in national or international journals and books.
In recognition of his untiring efforts in the field of radiology, Prof. Garcia-Mónaco is awarded Honorary Membership of the European Congress of Radiology and the European Association of Radiology.
